For a  time I never recognized the connections in my art, but then art is about connecting, connecting with a feeling a mood, inspiration, event etc, in my case it is always personal, if I'm not moved by an experience there is no art, it occurred to me my personal involvement mostly centred around my home, I live alone, and though I paint many portraits of family members, friends and pets, I am more often inspired by a subject of interest, animal/human rights etc  a person of interest whom inspired me, objects of beauty and interest that drift in and out of my life, all without having to leave home, my many interests connect from the wildlife to domestic animals, to the streets and suburbs I live in, but mostly the faces I meet along the way. From my home I'm inspired by almost everything that happens along, a connection on a bus stop with a person I share interests in common, a bird that appears on my window sill, a connection between them and myself if only fleeting is invigorating and for awhile the connecting becomes a part of my daily routine, such was the case with the Rainbow Lorikeets,  for awhile visiting me daily, for apple and sultanas,  daily they came the family of four, I never realized at first how many  paintings I created at that time were dominated by green, from portrait to abstract green in various shades. "Gathering of the Lorikeets" is such a connection, unconscious at the time, as abstracts are, it wasn't until I proceeded well into the painting how I had been influenced by the daily observations of the beautiful colouring of the Lorikeets.
